My Project

Help give my students the opportunity to experience the social emotional benefits of journal writing and gain practice using conventions of grammar, punctuation and spelling with colorful pens and decorative stickers!

Psychologist James Pennebaker found that daily journaling can serve as a tool to strengthen the immune system.

He also states that journal writing about past stressful events can help students work through the experience and reduce the impact that chronic stress can have on physical health. Journaling in my class will give students the chance to voice their opinion, document their dreams, and set goals for the future, in a safe non-threatening way. It will also give me something to assess their writing with and will allow me to communicate with each student and address their individual writing deficits and encourage their strengths!

Did you know that journal writing bolsters the analytical and rational parts of the brain? These are two areas that middle school students need to develop and with fun, decorative journals I am certain that daily writing will become a joy rather than a chore!
