Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Math used to be just about numbers and making sure you knew how to add. Not anymore. Children now as young as Kindergarten are preparing for their State tests that they will take years from now.
My children are bright, curious 5 year olds.
They don' t know it, but everything they are learning now is to prepare them for the future. In school they need to be encouraged to try their hardest from the very beginning. Although their families try, they just don't have the resources needed to prepare these children for what's to come. That's where we come in.
My Project
With these Math Journals, my children will be writing about their Math from the very beginning. This is very important as they get older. It is not enough for them to get the right answer, they will need to explain how they got the answer. If we make this routine from kindergarten, by the time these children get to the testing grades, there will be no surprises. They will succeed and be ready to move on to bigger and better things. These Math Journals have room on one side for the children to draw or write about their Math answer. Right next to it is room for them to explain how they got that answer. All this will prepare them for the future and make them more comfortable and confident with Math as they get older.
With your help we can instill that confidence early on so they are not afraid of Math and not afraid of Writing.
With your help they can be better prepared for the future and what lies ahead for them. Whatever obstacles they face at home, when they come to school they will be ready and prepared to work. I thank you in advance for giving these kindergartners a chance at a brighter future.
