Journalism Needs a Classroom Library to Read All About It
My students need a comprehensive journalism classroom library with a wide variety of books on sports journalism, photojournalism, graphic design and writing.
My students are motivated and willing to learn all that they can about the journalism profession. My school is home to three publications and a media program. My school is 55% minority and 45% are eligible for free or reduced lunch. My students want to create the best publications possible. They stay late and come to school early. They cover sports, school events, on-campus news and localize global topics to our school. The journalism program has won countless awards. The yearbook was a finalist and the online news site won the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker award this year.
My Project
To satiate their thirst for more information about the craft, I want to create a classroom library that features books about photojournalism, sports journalism, reporting, news writing and graphic design.
These specialized books will help my students explore the niche areas of journalism and find their true passion.
My budding sports reporters can learn how to best create game day coverage. My students interested in graphic design can learn more about the principles of design and my storytellers will learn more about how to best tell a feature story.
These books will help my students who are new to journalism, as well as the students who know the basics and want to learn more. The library will be a place for them to explore these titles and they will have the opportunity to check a book out and read it at home. Please consider donating and supporting my journalism program.
