My Project
I am so lucky to teach preschool because I get to focus on foundational skills for kindergarten readiness. We spend a lot of time focusing on fine motor skills to get our hands ready to be good writers. I love to use these journals every year to show their progress throughout the year.
We will use our journals to represent our ideas and practice writing about them.
Throughout the year we will practice skills such as pre-writing strokes, cutting lines and shapes, tracing, drawing, and, eventually, writing our own name and ideas. This year, I am adding safety mirrors as a tool to help children visualize their mouth movements as they learn letter sounds as a pre-reading strategy.
Every year my students are eager to work in their journals and show their families at the end of the year. What a great memento to demonstrate each child’s growth throughout their first year of school.
