This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I need 20 journals for my advisory class. This class is designed to support students emotionally and academically. Journals will help them express their feelings every dayâ¦.
My school accommodates international students.
Most of them come to this country with very little or no English. They find it very difficult to communicate their interests or their challenges. As a result, I thought about giving them a journal, where they will write what they have done the past two days and their feelings about different situations that happened at home or at school. This will be their little diary that will stay a secret if they want or they can share within their advisory group.
My Project
My students need 20 journals to use in their advisory class. This class is designed to offer students emotional and academic support. Students will use this journal as a DO NOW activity every time they have advisory. In this journal, they will write about anything that is challenging, frustrating, exciting, how they feel about something as well as how I can help them to resolve the situation. They will learn how to manage their feelings and why not to share with other students. The journal will be more fun and more interesting instead of a regular notebook. In addition, it will be a way for the students to learn English since I will allow them to write it in their own language first and then in English.
Students will be more opened about their feelings and get help from me, since sometimes I do not have time to have conversations with each and one of them.
Some students come to school with different issues that bother them, but we cannot help them as we are so busy that we forget to pay attention to them sometimes.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
