My Project
Our library has been super busy during lunches with over 100 students in the library during lunches each day. This excitement is awesome and really encouraging to see, but the library is getting overcrowded and some of the students who need a quieter, calmer space during lunch are finding that the library is just too busy/packed. Our students have a 45 minute lunch to allow them to decompress between their classes and this is great time for them to play a game or two before their next class--which is part of why the library is so popular. What I'd like to do is buy larger and more durable versions of some of our most popular games like Chess, Checkers, Battleship, Uno, and more.
We'd like to have these copies of the games available so that students can use them in the cafeteria as well as the library and so that more students can benefit from their use and receive the socio-emotional benefits of play and decompression during their lunch.
Our students are from all over Baltimore and many commute across the city in order to attend this school for one of the 20 vocational and technical career pathways that we offer. We are the largest high school in the city and serve a diverse student population including students from multiple linguistic, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. Playing games together is one of the ways that they are able to build connections and forge new bonds.
