My Project
Please help my student-athletes feel like a team. We live in a low-income, rural area. In the last couple of years, the school has started up a youth basketball team. Our girls are given the "leftover" practice jerseys that are ten years old or more. They have seen their day and to be honest, they are getting to be gross. In addition, there are not even enough jerseys for an entire team so if we need to be the same, the girls are sharing the jersey during the game (think about how gross that is!).
When we go to tournaments, our girls feel inadequate as all the other teams have true basketball jerseys.
We all know how much pre-teens love to look good. As their coach, our girls deserve to feel the same way as the other athletes. I am tired of our girls getting the leftovers. They deserve the better! Everyday, they try their hardest during practice and they hold their heads up high at tournaments even though in their eyes they feel like they look like the under dogs. Everyone knows when you feel good about yourself, your confidence and self-esteem goes up. These ladies need this too!
