Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a High School rated TITLE ONE by the Federal Government. More than 85% of the school population household income is below poverty level. Despite these obstacles, the students who have joined the Jaguar Sewing Club are in good academic standing, without excessive negative behavior issues.
The students in this club are motivated to improve their lives by achieving good grades and learning new skills with the goal of becoming productive citizens, and Sewing is a skill they are interested in acquiring.
Some have previous experience which they gained from family members, and others are beginners - cant even knot the thread, first time on a sewing machine.
We would greatly appreciate any financial aid available in order to acquire the materials/equipment needed that would enable the best learning experience possible
My Project
This sewing club is the initiative of 2 teachers who sincerely believe that learning the art of Sewing will be a lifelong learning experience for these students who volunteered to join the club to learn the art of sewing. It's ability to incorporate manipulatives aids in relaxation of the mind - needed due to excessive stress encountered from academic work.
Currently the 2 of us have supplied from our own personal resources the following items:
