My Students

The Media Center is anything but quiet. It pulses with student voices, music, and collaboration first thing in the morning. And, the morning news is broadcast from the Media Center each day.

We have over 1,000 students in our middle school.

94% receive free or reduced lunch, making us a Title I school. We have over 60% mobility rate which means that we start and end the year with only the same 40% of the entire student population. Finding programs to enhance and learn from is the biggest problem and the best goal.

My Project

This year, we have decided to move away from "Talking Heads" on the news and make it more interesting. Using an iPad 2 with 16GB, we can create movies using iMovie and other free software. But it's incredibly limiting. We run out of space for storing movies. With a larger amount of memory and a second iPad, we can create movies with Green Screen and other products and store the mini-movies more easily.

The morning news is to share information with the entire school.

Select students and students who select themselves for the Tech Club learn to create movies. The mini-movies, or public service announcements, teach the students about research, technology, planning, scheduling and creativity. Who knew school could so much fun?!
