Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are seven-year-olds and come from different kinds of families. Most of them come from low-income families. The majority of my students are still learning how to read. My students love silly stories with lots of fun characters. My students are at the age when the biggest growth in reading happens. Fun and exciting books help motivate them to become better readers. School should be a balance of education and fun for the children!
With the current situation with online learning, my students will need a lot more books of their own.
Most of my students' parents cannot afford books that my students need to read for them to get the best education they can during this pandemic.
My Project
Ivy and Bean is a series of fun beginning chapter books for students in grades 1-3. I want to purchase them the first book of the series. My students will be able to read grade-appropriate books while on zoom. This book will not only help them practice reading but will also teach them about friendships. My students will learn how to behave and possibly how not to behave when making a new friend. An actual book in the students' hands is super important since most of our learning is happening online these days.
