it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
During this coronavirus pandemic, I have had many parents contact me that their devices at home are either outdated or they simply have no devices at home. Students had a difficult time in completing homework assignments along with logging into virtual sessions on a cellphone.
I feel that my students didn't benefit as much as they could have if they would have had the proper devices.
The students were less engaged and were constantly trying to figure out how to work their device in order to see me on their screen and participate in the chat. As a teacher it was my job to make lessons as interactive as possible despite the circumstances, but I was constantly battling the devices students had.
Currently, I know some students have tablets and others are using their parents laptops during virtual learning. I allowed for a few of my students to borrow devices that I have funded for through DonorsChoose to make the virtual learning experience as smooth as possible for both parents and students.
My Project
Having these materials in my classroom would allow me to provide more students with a stable form of technology that could be used in their homes. I personally drop of these devices so that the students could use them at the comfort of their own home and parents do not need to worry about having to find a device for them to use. It also allows the student to not only participate in virtual meetings, but use applications that reinforce concepts taught in class. For instance, students can complete iReady, Reflex Math, Prodigy, or Starfall. All these applications plus many more could build those gaps between the child's level and the current lessons I give in class.
