This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world," Nelson Mandela. Writing is a tool for my students to feel empowered, so they can know that they have a voice.

My students live in a high-poverty area.

They are not accustomed to having access to many of the materials in order to write on a daily basis. Therefore, I want to have writing materials in my room so they know what it is like to have writing materials at their disposal. Writing journals, colored pencils and markers will get them excited about recording their stories!

My Project

With these writing materials, my students will be able to take part in a writing curriculum using a writing workshop model. I am a co-director for the Cal State Northridge Writing project, and I feel writing is so important in the education of students. I envision my student becoming fluent writers which they can continue throughout the years. They will be writing on a daily basis and will gain the confidence in themselves as writers with a voice.

Donations to this project will give my students that edge of having access to materials that they can using during our block of writing time.

Students will be excited about using good materials in order to produce writing in which they can take pride. They will become fluent writers, writing across all content areas as a tool in supporting their education.
