It's Time to Rock After COVID With Some New Guitars

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school's mission is to promote a college-going culture. Our inner-city students are very diverse, ranging from Latino, Asian, and African American backgrounds. They include immigrants and English Learners, as well as high performing Gifted and Talented students. Most are from low income families.
My students love learning, but many do not have access to arts programs in their community.
They are very excited to take part in our school's only music class. Many have never played a musical instrument before and they're eager and willing to put in the time and effort to practice. We serve a variety of students at a public school, where the arts are precious. We've even attracted students to our after-school Guitar Club from local nearby high schools, who come over in the afternoons to visit and learn.
My Project
Our guitar class is the only music program at our school. After a year of distance learning, we're looking forward to returning and jamming out in person. The chance to play an instrument and learn some of their favorite songs is my students' dream come true.
For many of of my students, these guitars will be the first musical instruments they will ever play.
