This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In the twenty-first century with newspapers dying out and being too expensive, my students are eager to begin producing a broadcast news show for our school. We can't do this without a video camera.
My students attend a public inner-city school in a major metropolitan area.
Most of the student body qualifies for free lunches. They have big dreams and I already have three groups of student teams in-training to produce video broadcasts. They are taking to the challenge and are developing skills, even though they are having to use still cameras at this point.
My Project
Imagine leaving high school with the ability to work in a team that develops a project idea, plans it, executes it and then shares it. You'd get to use technology, creativity, research, writing, public speaking, problem-solving...the list goes on. With a video camera my students will be completely in charge of their own projects from start to finish. They will be able to practice project-based learning at its best.
I am struggling right now to make my student's goals come true due to a lack of resources.
Given the challenge this semester to increase their audience, my journalism class has split in half. Half of the class, three teams, have decided to reach the audience through video broadcasts, but with only one video camera we are struggling to put a show together. These are not students who have access to video equipment at home. Please help my students achieve their goals.
