My Students

We all remember reading the stories growing up about the first space walk, the next president being sworn in, or even a natural disaster. Wouldn't you want your child to be able to read those types of stories too in the classroom?

Our district is very small with only two schools in it and our school has approximately 900 students total, but we are growing quickly.

We live just a few blocks away from the Pacific coast. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and are all full of life and have a huge love of learning!

My Project

My students need Time for Kids magazine so they can have access to nonfiction text. My students will use these weekly magazines to learn more about what is happening in the world. We will focus on comprehension skills, do small group activities, as well as research other stories that are similar to the ones that we just read. We will use these not only in whole group settings, but students will also be able to work with partners and in small groups.

This will make a difference for our students because most of the text we read in class is fiction.

I want my students to know that there is so much more out there and that nonfiction isn't a scary thing, but that it is interesting and is happening right now somewhere in our world.
