It's Time for Kids Again!

Help me give my students a great informational text resource in TIME for Kids. We also need a new pencil sharpener, whiteboard markers and colored paper!

My Students

It's 7:20 in the morning, the school day is ready to begin. Over the next 15 minutes, 12 school buses pull up into our bus lane. Students pour out of the vehicles and migrate to the playground for a chance to get their wiggles out. Then the bell rings and they get lined up, settled down, and ready to get to the classroom to have breakfast and get our day started. Just to look at them, they seem to be your average 4th graders. But I know the tough home situations many of them have just walked away from when they got on the bus.

They have loving parents that work hard every day to support their families, but many of these families have a difficult time making ends meet.

Thankfully, our school has several programs to help our low income families, such as Breakfast in the Classroom and Brainfood.

As fourth graders, at 9-years-old, they are still eager to learn and excited for school. My goal each day is to kindle that flame, keep their brains engaged and help them become leaders in their lives.

My Project

Each year, I have asked the generous donors at DonorsChoose.org to help my students to have access to current events at their grade level. Our students need many chances to read informational text, this will help to prepare them, for the more technical nonfiction reading, writing and critical thinking that they will be doing in high school and beyond.

TIME for Kids is a great resource and my students will use the magazine to increase reading skills as well as listening and speaking skills during class discussion.

We have had some severe budget cuts to our classroom supply budgets this year, I am looking for help with a new pencil sharpener, whiteboard markers and colored and special paper.
