I know the importance of standard grade, lined white paper. Students get it. They really do, BUT.... Please try and imagine the motivation and sense of accomplishment a student will have when they see their finished compositions mounted on the wall with a background of gold foil paper... Think of the excitement of writing a poem in ink on rice paper... How about writing a news article on neon orange newsprint??? Believe me it works. My students don't even notice the amount of work they are putting into essays and compositions. The focus of rigorous standards and high stakes testing has taken its toll on the creative aspects of teaching. It is important to remember that children must be given the opportunities to express creativity in a variety of ways. I have found that one of the best ways to motivate my students to create, is by providing them with unusual paper to write on, make projects, and display their writing in new and unusual ways. I am asking for a donation of seven boxes of paper remnants. These boxes contain a variety of paper samples that are unique,sometimes expensive, and always unavailable at the district supply warehouse. This is a simple request that will have far reaching effects. Please help us out.
