Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I service live in the South Bronx. Most of the students live below the poverty level and reside in public housing. Currently, I provide academic intervention services to third grade students. These students are reading 2 or more levels below the grade standard. These students are former ELL (English Language Learners) students or students who may need an Individual Educational Plan.
My goal is to ignite a LOVE for reading for my students!
My students are eager to practice the strategies that I model during our small group lessons. They take ownership of their learning and establish reading goals for themselves.
They look forward in taking adventures in the fiction and nonfiction books we read together and independently. They are constantly sharing the successes that they experience in their classrooms with their teachers, peers and while reading independently. They continue to make steady progress and most importantly they are building confidence!
My Project
The materials that I selected for this project will allow me to create lessons, tasks and centers to support the students that I service for reading intervention. The basic supplies like color pens and pencils will be used by the students when completing written responses after they engage in guided reading instruction. The color pens are used to edit their responses when using a self assessment checklist. The color paper will allow me to print centers and reading tasks. I plan to use the binders to organize the lessons, anchor charts and center activities for the students.
These simple supplies will allow me to create daily lessons and activities that will increase student engagement.
Many times I find myself searching for basic materials to be able to plan and prepare activities that are interactive and engaging. As we are in the middle of the year already, I find that I have low or out of the resources that I purchased at the beginning of the year and I believe new supplies will revamp my intervention instruction!
