Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a kindergarten special ed teacher, we start off with a lot of singing to get the students motivated for learning. This way they are excited to be at school and ready to learn. I always like to think of this when teaching, "teachers teach tomorrow's future." I stay motivated with this quote.
My classroom consist of special education as well as general education students.
They come from diverse backgrounds: mostly immigrant parents that are unable to spend a lot of time with their families. The students are eager to come to school and really want to learn.
Due to their different learning styles, it is essential that we have enough hands-on learning games to best meet the individual unique skill of each. As a kindergarten teacher, it is just as important that we get them to have the foundations for learning. Therefore they can build on this in future grades.
My Project
Student love hands-on activities. I will use this during our center time, in which they work in cooperative groups. They will learn skills such as letter recognition and phonemic awareness and also learn very important skills such as cooperation, sharing, and turn-taking. Students will sit in their teacher-created groups and work cooperatively with the centers. The vibrant colors on the pieces in each Learning game will excite the students and help them grow academically and socially.
Receiving these supplies in my classroom would enhance the students' morale.
They will be excited for learning and excited about coming to school. Everyone loves to receive something new. And many of these kids have never even experienced that in their lives overall. Imagine if you could give that to just one student. Learning about shapes as well as addition and subtraction with these games will help them tremendously. It will also create memories of working together.
