My Students
Imagine walking into a classroom and feeling electricity in the air! That electricity is the excitement of discovery my students experience when they are able to explore the systems of the body through hands-on dissections.
My students attend a charter school that serves students from a high poverty demographic.
These 6th graders are active learners who have limited exposure to real world, hands-on applications, but are very eager to learn. They inspire me as much as I inspire them!
My Project
These dissection kits will enable my students to experience first hand the excitement of exploring and comparing systems of various animals. By bringing these systems to life, these kits will allow students of limited opportunities the chance to examine an actual circulatory system, rather than just looking at pictures. They will get to see and feel a heart, a brain, muscles...sensory experiences that will stay with them far into the future.
Dissecting animals and organs provides these students with a hands-on application that is vital to stimulating excitement in the sciences.
This is extremely important for students from high poverty areas who often aren't given the opportunity to further themselves in this important field.
