Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing; they are one of the sweetest groups I've had in twenty-plus years. They are working so hard to make up for the time we were apart during the pandemic.

One of my favorite things about working with my students is that they and their families speak so many different languages (sometimes individual students speak six languages!).

My students and their families value education and the opportunities provided to them for a bright future.

Our school is in one of the highest poverty areas of our state; all students are provided free meals. Families often cannot provide enough school supplies and warm clothing, even though they work many jobs. We sometimes have to be careful in our neighborhood area because of violence.

My Project

Since we are working during a pandemic, all students have been provided a device to use for certain parts of the school day. At home, that works just fine, but at school, it's a different story. Students are required to work online for math and reading daily for a bit and it's so loud with so many in the room, it's quite a cacophony.

Everyone listening to instructions at the same time and the background music in the programs can be very distracting.

You can help us by providing comfortable, quality headphones to use (only at school). Students will be able to have their own headphones, not sharing germs, and hear their individual work. Thank you for considering helping us.
