I teach kindergarten to 24 students in a large Elementary School in Coastal South Carolina. My children come from diverse backgrounds. I am requesting puppets to enrich my classroom learning environment. Research has shown that when children learn using various methods, they retain information better. One of the ways this works very effectively with children in this age group is dramatic play. Kindergarten children love to re-tell, pretend and "act out". Also, I plan to use these materials to integrate the curriculum (literacy, math, science, social studies...)which also allows for better learning retention. I plan to use the puppets during stories/lessons and then the children would use them to re-tell the stories and perform for each other. I would like to create a storytelling center in my classroom that will give the children an opportunity to re-tell and act out stories and plays. I have a puppet theater, but no "fun" puppets. We have some sock and paper puppets, but my little performers would love large, fun puppets with movable mouths and arms. For this storytelling center, I am requesting various sets/types of puppets for dramatic play and curriculum integration activities. The following are requested: a set of Storytelling puppets (The Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears...), a set of Community Helper puppets, a set of Multicultural puppets and a Puppet Tree for display and storage. Having these materials to use in conjunction with classroom stories and lessons would help learning "come alive" for my kindergarten children. With these new materials we would have showtime everyday! Thank you for reading this proposal and for your support.
