This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our school, most students have had to survive some sort of hardship.
Everyone has trauma in their lives, but some have more than others.
Childhood trauma is a fairly new concept and it is becoming increasingly apparent that early trauma can shape a child's view of life.
These books and puzzles will help explain emotions and feelings and how to cope with them in a healthy way. Students learn best when they can see and experience lessons rather than just hearing them. Picture books allow students to connect pictures to textual situations. This makes a bigger impact since children are highly visual learners.
Not only do students need to learn about emotions and feelings, but I need to learn as well. Two of the books are about how to teach these students. After researching the effects of trauma, I believe it is important to learn how to handle these students in the classroom. I have as much work to do as the children.
