My Students

I teach the only Self-Contained special needs class at my school. We are a public Title I school in Mississippi. We serve students in grades pre-k through sixth grade. My students have high spirits and hearts of gold! Most of my students enter the classroom each morning with smiles on their sweet faces. They may not have what they need on a daily basis, but they have a desire to learn and interact with others. Our school district is wonderful at getting things we need but limited on funding resources.

My students deserve a variety of reading materials that will help them visualize that it’s ok to be different!

My students enjoy coming to school. However, all of my students are different. Mt classroom represents many disabilities. My students sometimes feel that they “don’t fit in” or that they are different from their peers. As a teacher who loves her students, I want to make sure that my students understand that it is ok to be different. I want them to know that they are not in this alone. My students are smart, kind, and loving individuals who deserve to feel that they “fit in”.

My Project

Having access to the “Celebrating Diversity” book set will allow my students the opportunity to listen to stories about others who are different. They will also be able to visualize how others are different by viewing the illustrations that include diversity. The book storage bins will allow my students an organized area to keep these books. The sing-along set will be awesome for my students to listen to on days that they are feeling down. Having the “Phonics Set” will give me the opportunity to introduce short words to my students so they are familiar with them when we are reading.
