My Students
When you think of a science class, you think of hands on activities and experiments, not sitting at a desk taking notes all day long. However, how can you perform experiments without any lab equipment? This is the problem that my students and I face.
My students are 6th graders in Greenville, MS.
Many of them have not taken a science class before, and thus my class is their first exposure to science and the scientific method. They are so eager to learn and have already been doing so well taking notes and doing a lot of mental thought exercises. My students also really look forward to the weekly demonstrations that I do, and are always asking what experiment I will be doing this week (or even suggesting experiments of their own).
My Project
Our school does not have a school set of lab equipment or lab inventory of any sort. Any lab equipment that does exist has been personally bought by teachers, and it simply is not enough to do the wide range of hands on experiments that really define a science class. Your donation would really help to transform my classroom into a real science classroom where students ask questions and are able to perform their own experiments to answer their questions.
Though they are very excited about watching me do class demonstrations, having the opportunity to each participate in hands on activities and experiments is so integral to science.
Because this is most of my students first science course, I feel more of a responsibility to ensure that my students become as passionate about science as I am.
