It's Not Hot-Just Humid

My students need a class set of sling psychrometers/humidity detectors.

I teach 8th grade Earth Science to the advanced students and General Science to the remaining population in a suburban school.

Since there is not enough funding for science supplies, science classes in my school tend to have enough equipment for either 8 groups of students or just a class demo. Most of the time we have to make our own. I would love to have my students have better tools of measurement rather than the makeshift tools that waste class time to make and never fail to fall apart. Students in the past have spent more time trying to fix their tools rather than using them. Accuracy is also lost.

I would need a class set of sling pyschrometers. The class set contains 30 which would allow for my students to each have one or to work in pairs rather than 4 member groups. My objective is to have students experience how scientists collect data about weather and how they use this information collectively to predict weather. This meets New York Standards for science in understanding Earth and Space concepts as well as collecting and analyzing data using technology and tools and developing scientific competence by completing field work.

Hands-on discovery is an important tool when teaching science and a great opportunity for students to feel like actual scientists as they use real science equipment to collect data.
