My Students
Every year, I hear, "It's not fair! Why do they get to have a kitchen and we don't!" My students are disappointed because the other kindergarten has a kitchen set and we don't. Dramatic play is so important. It helps develop social skills, basic reading skills, and vocabulary.
My students live in a high poverty area.
Many come to school without any prior experience. Kindergarten is the gateway to elementary school and my students are not always prepared. Many come from disadvantaged homes, some from broken homes. School is a place for them to feel safe and secure.
My Project
I've asked for a kitchen set and some food and pans. These simple items will help my students grow and learn. The children will be able to role play home situations, like cooking dinner or washing the dishes. Imitation and imagination is important for healthy development.
