it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my speech and debate classroom, I am excited to work with students who possess incredible potential despite coming from underfunded backgrounds. These students are resilient, motivated, and eager to learn, and my goal is to help them build lifelong skills in critical thinking, communication, and public speaking. The small timers, gavels, and podiums I plan to incorporate will allow them to develop and practice these essential skills in a structured, realistic setting. The timers will help students learn how to manage their speaking time efficiently, while also teaching them the importance of pacing and staying focused under pressure. The gavels will provide a sense of formality and structure, reinforcing the importance of order and respect during debates. The podiums will give students the opportunity to practice public speaking in a setting that mimics the competitive tournaments they will attend, allowing them to build confidence and presence in front of an audience.
By using these resources, my students will be better prepared for the challenges they will face at tournaments and in life.
They will learn how to think critically, organize their thoughts, and communicate effectively—skills that will help them succeed both academically and personally. My goal for this project is to equip them with the tools and experience they need to compete at the highest level and to break down the barriers that often limit their success due to their backgrounds. What makes my students special is their determination to overcome obstacles and their commitment to learning, no matter the challenges they face. With the right resources, they can succeed and prove that their circumstances do not define their potential.
