Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
First grade is a year full of huge milestones. From losing a tooth to learning how to tie your shoes. For most of my students in my classroom, it is the year they learn how to read a book on their own for the first time. As a teacher, that is the most amazing experience. "I love reading now!" "I'm independent!" "I'm helping a friend attack a hard word." These are a few of my favorite quotes I hear about reading. With the pandemic last year we now have to be prepared to be remote learning at any point in the year. With that, we are learning our normal classroom routines, along with possible remote learning routines.
Students need more individual materials now more than ever in a classroom because we can't share supplies.
With social distancing this year spacing in the classroom is scarce. We are spread out 3 feet apart so it leaves little room for shelves and extra tables. I love to keep an organized classroom because I believe it makes for a happier environment and teaches responsibility for our future leaders!
My Project
STEM bins allow creativity and fun to be instilled in science and engineering learning. Students can use these materials when they have completed their assignments, so that they do not just have to do another worksheet. For many students the switch from kindergarten to first grade can be hard because there is less "play time". These activities allow students to "play" while also promoting future growth in America's most sought after careers. I will provide task cards that they will use to create projects with their building materials. GO STEM!
