My Students

Science and math are the gateway to higher education and I strive daily to keep the gates open for the students in my classroom. In order to keep the science and math gates open, my students need 5 Snap Circuits kits to use for learning about electricity.

My students are from a poverty-stricken, rural area with an agriculturally based economy.

They have limited or no exposure to museums, camps, and other science-based experiences. They love science and eagerly dive in to the projects I prepare for them. The more hands-on those projects are the more they like it and, most importantly, the more they learn.

My Project

When my students use their Snap Circuits kits in the classroom, they will go past a worksheet to develop experiential knowledge of the concepts of electricity. An open-ended kit like Snap Circuits will allow students who quickly grasp concepts to apply those concepts with self-directed experimentation. While they experiment, I can continue to teach the concepts to the students that need extra teacher-directed practice. Hands-on materials will provide my students with a concrete way to learn the scientific method and how to perform an experiment.

The development of an innovative, dynamic workforce begins in elementary school with learning experiences that teach students how to think through problems creatively.
