My Students
I am a 2nd grade special education teacher in Brooklyn, NY. My school is an Early Childhood Center that ranges from Pre-K to Grade 2. We have a large population of English language learners. The staff at our school pride ourselves on creating a love of learning in young children so they may carry it with them throughout their lives.
The students in my class have been diagnosed with disabilities such as speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, and delays in motor skills.
They have several different learning styles and it is often a challenge to meet the specific needs of each and every child.
My Project
My students have been designing items using our brand new Cricut. They have come up with ideas to design their own cards, shirts, bags, hats, and drinking cups! We are even having a contest to pick the design for this year's Field Day shirts.
The kids have been hard at work and we are ready to start bringing their ideas and designs to life.
The Cricut machine can cut the designs that they would like to use. I am requesting heat transfer vinyl in different colors to be used for this purpose. Once the vinyl is cut, it can be transferred onto shirts by applying heat. While this can be done with a good old fashioned iron, a Cricut Easy Press would make the process safer and easier. This will allow the students to literally play a hands on role in creating their designs.
