I am a fifth-grade teacher in urban public elementary school that serves a high-need community. As an IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, our educators strive to expand our students' horizons through integrated, self-directed learning experiences.
My students are bogged-down by prescribed textbook-based curricula that often lack relevancy or engaging instruction. Moreover they do not allow for small-group learning experiences--an essential component of the learning process.
By providing engaging, skill-based learning activities that my students can use in small-group settings, I will not only give them an opportunity to hone their literacy, and math skills, but also their cooperative learning skills. Plus, they'll be too engaged in "playing" to even realize they are learning!
Your donation will allow me to provide differentiated instruction in both math and language arts. With these games I can appeal to a variety of my students' learning styles and interests. Not everyone learns by reading or listening to lectures. These games will enable me to reach kinesthetic and interpersonal learners, too. Studies show that the best way to improve math, and literacy skills is to reinforce them through a variety of exposures.
