My Students

My 5th-grade students are a diverse, fascinating group of hard-working children who love school and enjoy learning new things. For many of my students, school is not only a place to gain knowledge but it's a place to learn how to work collaboratively and build positive relationships. Our class is like a family!

Ours is an urban school district in which many of my students are from low-income families.

However, your socioeconomic status should not dictate your access to quality learning, with quality materials and a variety of learning tools.

I would love to have books in their hands about famous Americans. Please help make this possible.

My Project

The project is called 5th Grade Reads Biographies! This project will put engaging books in the hands of reluctant readers. It will give students an opportunity to learn about different people from various walks of life. In class, the students will learn how to gather information on a specific person. They will use the books to create biography reports...that they will share the report orally with their classmates. The books will be used for this class and future 5th-grade classes.

My goal is to turn reluctant readers into students that enjoy reading!

Along with reading the biographies, the students will need engaging lessons to learn how to put together reports. In addition to the biographies, it is my goal to help students learn to create other original books reports in preparation for middle school. Resources to employ and engage students in these activities need to be fresh and innovative...what better resource than other teachers that have a wealth of knowledge in this area? I have also asked for a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to assist with resources for this project and future projects.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this project.
