My Students
My students love to come to school, where for some of them it's the only place they feel safe and loved. I love teaching them and they are not without their challenges. So many of them have lived a life I could never imagine. Their eagerness and enthusiasm to learn makes me strive to find a variety of programs and materials to enhance the curriculum so they can enjoy learning so much more. My students come with a variety of skill levels since some this is their first experience with school and they lack the basic foundation to move forward with their education.
My Project
My students struggle with recognizing letters and learning the letters sounds. I only have a handful of students who can recall all 26 letters because of this most of the class has difficulty meeting their end of year reading goals. I don't have a lot of materials in my classroom that give my students the ability to manipulate letters in different ways. I am requesting a variety a letter learning materials for my students to use during center time so that they can have lots of practice with letter sounds and word building. I truly believe the more hands on work they can have with letters that it will help them remember what the different letters look like and help them remember what sound it each letter makes. Getting the materials I requested for my classroom I feel will help my children move closer to the reading level they need to be on by the end of Kindergarten.
