It's All About Me: The Power Of A Good Memoir

My Project

Our school community is rich in diversity. Our students are wonderful, learning to accept and grow with the many different cultures, backgrounds, worldviews, and more that are all around them every day. Sitting in diverse classes and hearing the perspectives within a diverse community is invaluable in learning about the world. Another invaluable way to learn empathy and compassion is to read about the lived experiences of a variety of authors.

Memoirs provide a level of nuance, depth, and authority that help students more fully understand a variety of cultures and worldviews.

Nothing can replace the value to be gained from conversations our students have with each other in the classrooms, hallways, and lunchroom. Equally valuable, however, is the chance to understand the deepest intricacies, joys, difficulties, successes, frustrations, and other facets of a particular life when reading about the author's real life experience.

By updating our collection of memoirs and biographies, we can help our students continue growing as compassionate members of our society.
