My Students
What a Wonderful World!
Our school is more than 80% autistic, and finishing its first year! We are going to start developing a music program. We want to find some hidden talent! Our students need a keyboard, recorders and rhythm sticks. We want to create a wonderful world for our students.
Our classrooms are 80% autistic.
Each child is completely unique. We have artists, writers, and musicians all within our grade level. Many students struggle to concentrate. Some have difficulty reading, or doing math. We have a young boy who can sing and play a song after hearing it just once, and we want everyone to have a chance to try. A few of our students can barely communicate. We are hoping that a new music program will help discover some hidden talents, and help our students find new ways of coping with their confusing worlds.
My Project
Our grade level is working on developing a music program from nothing. We are going to use the keyboard for basic music lessons, and to help with a vocal program. We would also like a protection plan for the keyboard to keep it working correctly from year to year. We would like to start a recorder band among the students. We have already planned our holiday program with a vocal song, as well as backup with recorders and rhythm sticks. Our students find comfort in fidgets, pacing, bouncing on rubber balls, and, we hope, enjoying the discovery of music. This will be just the beginning of our music program, but we hope not the end!
Our students need repetition and comfort in familiarity.
Adding music to their lives at school will help them discover new interests. Daily, we discover something new that our students can do. They get so excited when they discover a new interest! We want to include music in a "wonderful world" they are experiencing.
