This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th grade students are in for a year they will never forget..for this is the year that they will become amazing young writers!
My school is a little gem hidden in a large city named Hialeah.
The majority of our students are Hispanic and come from low-income households. My 4th grade students are bright, curious, and excited to be in school. They are tech-savvy, even if many of them cannot afford to purchase their own devices. They rely on the technology available to them in school.
My students have had little exposure to different forms of writing. They are worried and intimidated by the prospect of yet another state writing exam. My goal is to ease their worries and build their confidence as writers. I plan to show them that writing is essential to our community, and can be highly enjoyable as well!
My Project
All of my students had to pass the FCAT exam to advance to 4th grade, which was a feat all in itself. These students rose to the challenge, and I am honored to be their teacher this year. Throughout the year, we will be learning about all forms of media and writing. The materials I am requesting will be used to create a monthly newsletter to parents (written and illustrated solely by the students) keeping them informed of all our activities.
Students will also get the opportunity to write, direct, and perform short stories and plays using the requested materials. This project will build their confidence as writers and help them see writing is more than just a paper and pencil. They will utilize familiar technology in order to create writing pieces they never dreamed possible! My students need a color printer, tablet with laptop capabilities, and a pen to use with tablet.
Your donations will provide these eager students with the technology needed to create amazing pieces of writing.
These wonderful pieces will help to build their confidence as writers. The ultimate goal is that they will increase their chances of success in both college and their chosen careers by mastering their writing skills.
