Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This will be the first year that Clinton Elementary will insure that all students receive science instruction in grades 3-5. I will be teaching each class separately in my classroom.
I intend to start the new school year teaching Life Science to all three grade levels. The hands-on inquiry based lessons will be greatly enhanced with owl pellets for each student to investigate the food web.
In fifth grade, students study life systems, and the animal cell model will help bring the unseen individual cells into a concrete medium for the students.
The greatest obstacle to a successful year is a lack of resources in the classroom to enhance the students' investigations. Students are better able to understand the "Big Idea" and make connections to the real world when they are using hands-on inquiry lessons.
An animal cell model, owl study kit, and owl pellets will greatly empower my students to understand the smallest building blocks of all life, and that energy for those cells are derived from what the living thing eats.
