My Students
The feeling you get when you finish a task that was both arduous and daunting. The feeling of accomplishment that you get when you have tackled a project, and come on the other side of it successful. That is the feeling that my students get when they have tackled a difficult art project.
I teach a great bunch of kids who love to read and write.
They are kind, generous, but they are missing out on some wonderful art projects that are also a long lost art form. Our school focuses on so much, but one area where we need to work on is having hands on art projects that work on fine motor skills for kids.
My Project
I have a class that seems to have a big struggle with fine motor skills. We tried a simple sewing project that was very daunting. At the end of the project, the kids were ecstatic! They expressed want to try more projects like that. So this project is centered around creating more of those crafts and doubling as a fine motor exercise. Students will be sewing, doing cross-stitch, as well as crocheting with all the materials from this project. The sewing needles, cross-stitching materials, felt, and patterns that are part of this project, will be so helpful in fulfilling so many things!
This project can make a difference on so many levels.
Besides bringing back the lost art of handicrafts to the classroom, the fine motor skills that are needed to accomplish these tasks will do nothing but boost confidence as well as work on those elusive fine motor skills that can sometimes be so terribly difficult. But on top of all of that, after completing all these skills they have a nice artifact to show for their hard work.
