My students need easy grip markers, foam sensory paint, aprons, and other specialized art supplies which will allow them to be creative and expressive through art.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Huntington Park, California. My classroom supports students with moderate to severe autism and I currently have 11 students. The individual needs of our students vary greatly so it is important to have materials and activities that engage all of them. Many of our students are also English language learners and non-verbal. They learn best through the use of pictures, manipulatives, and kinesthetic activities. My students enjoy hands on materials and are eager to explore new objects.
My Project
These art materials will help support the sensory and fine motor needs of my students. Many of my students are sensitive to various textures and smells. They also have trouble with holding and manipulating art tools such as regular crayons and paint brushes. This effects their willingness to participate in many art activities. The shape, size, and texture of the materials we are requesting, including the small round markers, will make it easier for students who are not yet able to hold writing/ drawing tools to be able to create their own art. These materials will help my students make art a part of their every day learning.
