My students need 2 iPod touches with cases to use as a interactive tool that provides many enrichment opportunities through educational and communication applications.
Through the use of podcasting, educational applications, and eBooks available to use on the iTouch, learning becomes more accessible for all levels of students. Students will be engaged in learning new concepts and reinforce skills already learned.
I teach a very diverse group of first graders in a suburban community in Texas.
My students come from so many diverse and socio-economic backgrounds. Half of my students have been identified as English being their second language and one third has been identified as 'at-risk'. The majority of my students do not have access to new technology and/or Internet at home. As a result, school is often the only opportunity these students have for learning the 21st century skills that are essential for this generation to succeed. We are blessed to have computers in our classroom, but are still behind with the newer technologies such as hand held devices. My students enjoy learning new skills and are very motivated by the opportunity to use technology. Sadly, the opportunity is not always available on a daily basis due to limitations in equipment and availability.
My Project
With the addition of a set of hand held devices, such as the iTouch, my students would not only be more motivated to learn, but they would also be able to have access on a daily basis. The iTouch has proven to be an extremely beneficial learning device in the elementary classroom. The iTouch also has the capability of downloading audio books as well as eBooks (electronic books). These are two features that are wonderful tools for students who struggle with reading or are uninterested in reading. Also with applications such as addition and subtraction review, spelling review, and science connections, the possibilities for student learning are endless. With two iPod touches, I would be able to use the iTouch as a learning station in the classroom, as well as a reward system to help increase student engagement and motivation.

In order for students in the 21st century to be successful, they need experience with as many technologies possible, as early as possible. With the addition of a set of iTouch's to my classroom inventory, my students would be highly engaged and motivated to learn on a daily basis.
