iTeach on iPads! Why is technology so important in the classroom? Teachers need technology, such as iPads, in the classroom because the students are very motivated by them and the possibilities for integrating iPads in the classroom are endless. It is the 21st century and technology is everywhere!
I teach in a 12:1:1 self-contained kindergarten- second grade special education classroom.
I have multiple different learning disabilities in my classroom. The students' disabilities affect both their academic and social progress.
Most of my students are currently below grade level and have not been exposed to technology in the classroom as the materials we do currently have are broken or out-dated. I have a great group of students who really love learning, but do not have adequate technological resources in the classroom to further their learning.
My Project
My students have special needs and receive small group instruction to access their curriculum. Many times they need extra practice at mastering skills which will be supported by apps, websites and teacher tools available on the iPad. The use of the iPad will also make the practice more engaging.
Along with their special needs and the learning challenges they face, my students come from financially challenging backgrounds and most do not have access to computers at home. Technology is changing the way people learn and function in the world. I want to provide my student with access to technology so they can develop the skills necessary to be lifelong successful learners.
This project is very important to me because as a teacher of special education students, I need to meet each student at their individual level and provide them with the instruction and materials they need to improve their skills.
Having an iPad for the students to use will make the practice more engaging since it will help my different learners with various disabilities.
