I teach 20 caring, intelligent, hardworking, and passionate students. We all come from different backgrounds but respect each others strengths and areas of improvement. My class has a range of abilities and my goal is is to have everyone reading at or above grade level by the end of the year.
My students need an Apple iPad mini to explore math and reading beyond the border of the classroom walls.
I am the first grade teacher to 20 students in a small East Texas town. A majority of my students come from economically challenged homes. Our school is mainstreamed where students with special needs are in regular classrooms with the other students.
My Project
During our Reading station, students are scattered all about the room indulging in books. They are all reading independently, building their comprehension. The addition of an iPad will provide students with an additional reading resource. For struggling readers, the iPad will give them access to grade level text they would not normally be able to read. Giving them access to higher level texts will continue to excite and stimulate their reading abilities and comprehension. For those reading on grade level and above, it will provide access to higher level books not found in our class library. For many students today technology is a huge motivator. The iPad will reach students who dislike reading and open new doors to digital books. I am also requesting headphones and a case for the iPad. With your help this project will impact the lives of many young children.
Using technology as the motivator, I plan to enrich my classroom with many digital books and a listening center to attract even those students who do not love reading.
It is so important to have students reading on grade level and I want to give them every advantage and opportunity to improve and expand their reading abilities.
