Help me give my students some goals to shoot into. They play soccer outside during every recess and have only a fence to shoot at. The fence doesn't have boundaries like a goal does.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love to be at school because it's a place where they are safe, warm, fed, and loved. My students are typical kids; they wiggle and talk a lot. I encourage friendship and family. I help them learn to stick up for each other and remember that we are a team.
Students attend gym at least 90 minutes per week.
The students don't get to run and play outside, recess is eliminated when the weather is cold so gym is a class they all look forward to.
My students are elementary level and are very low income. They don't have the opportunities to play club sports outside of school. Many have natural talent and would benefit from extra activities. My goal is to introduce them to as many sports as possible so they all find their strengths and feel successful.
My Project
The students spend all of their recess playing soccer. There is a fence that they shoot at, but the accuracy of whether or not it's a goal is causing some argument. When the ball is inside the net, three is no doubt its a goal.
I am teaching the students the game of hockey during gym class.
The rules, the procedures, and how to hold the stick and aim to score. I have a nice selection of sticks but nothing for the older students. We need some tall sticks so they are able to hold the stick properly. The students really love the game, they love learning about it and being in Detroit, the Red Wings are a powerful figure in sports. Playing games is a lot more fun when the equipment is the right size.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
