My school currently serves approximately 1500 students in grades 9-12. My students come from homes with range from farms to public housing and everything in between. Most are from economically disadvantaged homes, as 100% of our students receive a free breakfast, lunch, and after school dinner.
Our motto here is that we are "PARK." The students and staff alike have bought into this message of Positivity, Attentiveness, Respect, and to always Keep going.
We provide them with a safe learning environment and try to meet each and every student's academic and personal needs. We feel if they are safe and comfortable, there are no limits to what they can achieve.
Our students have overcome many hardships by the time they come to us in the eighth grade. As a teacher, you set out to make a difference thinking you have something to offer your students, when in reality, it is often the students that do the most teaching.
My Project
High school students have seen a dramatic rise in mental health issues, especially ones dealing with anxiety, stress, and depression. Throughout their senior year, my students will be learning about various diagnoses and what can help in dealing with these. Throughout our unit on Mental Health, the students are researching healthy ways to combat anxiety and calming coping strategies that help manage stress.
With this project, we will be creating our own personalized roller ball scents.
Each student will have the opportunity to use essential oil reference books to research what each scent helps with. They will be able to find valuable uses for each scent and learn how aromatherapy can be added into a daily mental health routine.
