My Students
I teach first grade in a small farming town in Illinois. We have such a diverse student population. On one side of town, we have students who come from half-million-dollar homes and on the other side of town, students who come from public-housing situations. 30% of our student population receives free and reduced lunch and school fees. My goal for all my students is to give each and every one of them the same opportunity to learn with every advantage possible.
If I can accomplish one thing in the short time I have my students, it would be that know that I truly love and value them as individuals.
My Project
I want to provide my students with meaningful activities throughout the day. Even their ¨downtime¨ should be meaningful. I would love to provide my students with STEM games that they can use during indoor recess, for fast finisher activities, as well as during centers and group work time. The logic games and STEM activities such as the roller coaster challenge kit that I have chosen are engaging and will also provide my students with opportunities to problem solve, develop critical thinking skills, and to work cooperatively with classmates.
It is our job as educators to help prepare our students for life and the challenges that they could face.
These games will help develop some of those critical skills that will be used to tackle those challenges.
