Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have jumped on the reading wagon! They read everyday whenever they have free time, after completing assigned work, and even during recess time. Their love for books and reading is becoming more apparent each day. Now we need more Accelerated Reader books to keep the interest going.

My elementary-aged students attend a public Title 1 school.

Many live in single family homes, are being raised by grandparents, and receive free or reduced lunches. Many students have never visited a public library but their love for books is evident. When my students find a book that peaks their interest, they just can't get enough of the book or its characters. As a school it is our obligation to provide books of interest to students.

My Project

I often see the students searching through the books in our class library. They look at the cover. Ponder over the title and sometimes read the back cover. Then I see the ah-ha look on their faces, they've read the book before and are looking for a new adventure. My students don't give up but keep looking. Our class library includes a number of Accelerated Reader books but more will be better. Students need to have variety. New books will be a welcomed addition to the class collection. Students will find a title they haven't already read and will be open to a new adventure. Many of my students do not physically "go" to far away places but through a book will be provided the opportunity to travel to distant lands, places, and take on the roles of different characters.

My students need to be exposed to all sorts of reading material.

New books are one way to guarantee that students have access to quality reading material geared for their age. These new Accelerated Reader book titles will be a welcomed gift to our class. Students will be able to read, take a computer-based comprehension test, and find satisfaction in the knowledge that they read a book of their choice, checked for understanding, and then shared information about the book they read with a friend.
