Island Fun with a Steel Drum!

Help me give my students some variety in our classroom instruments. I would like to purchase a steel drum to our music classroom.

My Students

I teach in an intermediate school which includes grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th totaling about 730 students. My students love singing, creating music and playing instruments! My students come to music class excited and eager to learn about composers, new songs, and how to play various instruments.

My students are especially excited to play the drums, and they love unique instruments.

We have a very strong high school band program, and it gives my students a sense of pride to be a part of our district.

My Project

My students are doing a program about island in the sun and need a steel drum to add to our instruments. I currently have one steel drum in my classroom, and I am fortunate enough to borrow a steel drum from another school. We are using many instruments in our program. Having another steel drum will help complete our music ensemble where we will be using other instruments to accompany songs we are singing.

Not only will the steel drum be played in our music program, but my students will continue to use the steel drum throughout the year and many years to come.

The steel drum will help us learn and Caribbean songs and connect to Caribbean culture.
