My Students
Our school serves students from transitional kindergarten through 5th grade. The student body includes about 450 students altogether. The student body is widely diverse and 55% of students come from low-income families. Our school is a Title l school.
My fifth grade class includes 27 fabulous learners.
Our classroom setting includes students with different interests, experiences, learning styles and needs.
We strive to create a comfortable school environment in which students look forward to coming each day to develop their academic and social skills.
My Project
Setting up a new classroom includes ensuring the library has a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books that will appeal to the interests of all learners. Connecting readers to books that are engaging to them is the best way to spark a love of reading and foster a community in which students look forward to immersing themselves in the worlds and experiences of others, whether real or imaginary.
This project strives to add to our digital classroom library high-interest topics such as black holes, earthquakes and tsunami, sand Westward Expansion, that are sure to pique curiosity and engage readers over the course of the school year.
Third through fifth graders will be able to access TrueFlix at school and at home. Students will be able to read about science and history topics and benefit from features include glossaries, short videos and the option to have the text read aloud to them, which will benefit our struggling readers and our English Language Learners.
TrueFlix is an amazing resource as it provides students with high-quality books and provides great opportunities for teaching valuable research and reporting skills. This resource will enhance teaching and learning across all of our upper elementary school grades.
