My Students
No way! Wow, that's awesome! Did you know this is real? Hey, come over and look at this! I hear these comments all the time as my students dive into nonfiction books. The problem: we don't have enough of these high-interest nonfiction books!
I teach in a high poverty area where my students don't have the opportunity "get out in the world" and experience many things.
Vacations anywhere out of our city, trips to the zoo or other educational places, and exploratory camps just aren't in the family budget. Nonfiction books are a way for my students to explore the world around them even though they cannot experience these things first hand.
My Project
Topics from animals and world travel to famous people and cool inventions intrigue my students and make them want to read and learn more. I can't ask for more as a teacher! These high interest nonfiction books will provide opportunities for my students to experience life outside of our neighborhood and school. They will form book clubs with their classmates to discuss topics of common interest.
Endless opportunities to learn, discuss, contemplate, and enjoy things outside of their reach will abound with your assistance!
Please help my students learn through these nonfiction books!
